IGHR 2013

So… was one of your New Year’s Resolutions to get a better firmer grounding in genealogy this year? To attend a conference or perhaps even a week-long institute?

If so, mark your calendar: Tuesday, January 22nd, is the date for registration for the 2013 Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR). That’s a week-long institute, June 9-14, 2013, at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Now you may be wondering why I’m giving you so much advance notice. That’s because every one of these courses will fill up literally within minutes of the time when registration opens. If you’re not sitting at your computer, mouse in hand, ready to go when registration for a course you want opens, chances are very good you won’t get into that course. There are always waiting lists, and folks do manage to score a slot after being on a waiting list… but you can’t bank on it.

So if you have your heart set on learning advanced methodology from Elizabeth Shown Mills or Scottish genealogy from Paul Millner, or you want to be in the inaugural class on Native American research, set aside time on the morning of Tuesday, January 22nd.

The Courses

As always, the IGHR course line-up has some stellar options this year, and there’s something for everyone. Courses range from basic to advanced, general to subject-focused. The course list for 2013 is:

All IGHR class sizes are limited and REGISTRATION FILLS UP FAST. If you want to go, be prepared to start trying to register right when registration for the class you want opens and to keep trying. There’s a guide to registration available online so you can understand the process in advance and be ready to go.

Course 4 has prerequisites and if you register for the course but don’t have one of ‘em, you have to submit a paper by March 1, 2013 or your registration will be cancelled.
