In real life, even!
The Legal Genealogist is a Lord of the Rings fan.
Big time Lord of the Rings fan.
As in “seen all the movies, more than once, and can practically recite dialogue from the book” Lord of the Rings fan.
So it’s hardly a surprise that, when presented with the chance here in New Zealand to go see part of the set for the movies — the part set at Hobbiton, the village of the hobbits — I jumped at the chance.
And with little or no further comment, since none at all is required for anyone who is a LOTR fan, the photos:
The road to Hobbiton:
This one is not just any hobbit hole. It’s Bag End:
The Party Tree:
And this one shows two VERY happy Lord of the Rings fans (many thanks to Helen Smith, my guide and all-around minder):
Have you prepared a Hobbit family tree? That would be the true sign of a LOTR fan/genealogist.
Wouldn’t THAT be fun…
You lucky girl, always wanted to see New Zealand. Have fun and lookout for the Hobbits!
Loved the books! Movies, not so much, but I did go to all of them except The Hobbit ones, which were just too far from the book. Ha, ha, were they offering any homes for sale? Trip looks like a lot of fun, and I’d love to attend some of your new classes. See you in Sonoma in April!
And this IS genealogy related: I have explained to friends for years that I am so short because my mom was part hobbit. 😉 I’d love to visit Hobbiton. I bet I could walk through one of those doors without stooping!
Although the Hobbit trilogy had some problems, we can thank it for having Hobbiton back. After the Lord of the Rings trilogy was finished filming (including a full year for the plants to grow in), everything was removed to restore the original farmland. Upon returning, a more permanent set was built and left ready for visitors.
(no I haven’t been to NZ but yes I’ve watched all of the extended edition appendices)
It’s easy to see from the photos, that visiting Hobbiton was a dream come true for you. So glad that you were able to do it.
I am ssssooooooooo envious. Hope you are having a wonderful time
Oh how much fun that must have been. I loved reading The Hobbit at school. Time to read it again me thinks.
Love these photos. Beautiful!
