Part 2…
There’s never enough time to do everything The Legal Genealogist wants to do on a trip like this one: speak, learn, blog… everything is a scramble.
And I’m always behind even in posting a few pictures, like these, from the area of Akaroa, near Christchurch, where they have had those devastating earthquakes. Hard to believe that this pristine pastoral area is so near where so many have lost so much…
Took a smaller one of these out into one of the rivers — fun!!
Then took the Silver Fern, a train through the Trans-Alpine region:
And saying farewell to Akaroa:
I am a friend of Barbara Mathews but we have not met. I am in the DAR and volunteer as the researcher for the chapters outside the USA. Right now I am working on four applications – 2 in Australia and 2 in New Zealand. I love their organized documents. Doing this and never meeting the person face to face doesn’t mean we are not friends. Through the process of organizing her documents, we become friends. Nice.
The civil registrations down here are amazing documents. Would that we’d done the same!!
I think we were so glad to be rid of autocracy that we didn’t want to be documented. We would tolerate what was needed.
Your nice photos certainly give a sense of some scenic views. But “pristine”? Buildings, fences, forests cut, silt, something (hay?) just recently harvested, roads . . . looks to me like available land is pretty productive. Was surprised not to see sheep.
Great pictures. Thank you for sharing. What a great trip!
Have really enjoyed the photos. DON”T forget to get your New Zealand calendar so you can see fall pictures in March/April and summer in December.
Thanks so much for taking the time to post these wonderful photo’s. For those of us who may never get to see this country we still get to visit thru the eye of your camera.
