It was and is numbing that not only has hate been harnessed in this way but that so many Americans supported it, and continue to support it.
Just saw your presentation on Genealogytv on youtube regarding understanding wills and probate and it explained all my questions about a family I was writing up. I couldn’t understand why she was giving up one of her sewing machines in the “relinguishment” (among other items). Thanks for such a clear, concise and succinct talk.
Amen to your post today!
From the viewpoint of north of the 49th parallel, it was frightening to watch on the news, horrifying in its mad hate-filled power, with the support and encouragement of a narcissistic entitled wealthy Past President. Leaves one feeling both sad and angry at the same time… And it continues…
I’m glad to read your post today. I have been numbly silent for the past year – alarmed by what had transgressed at the capitol, and initially unaware of how many supported the insurrection. Now, a year later, it seems many are starting to speak out and I’m glad to see it.
I completely agree with your comments. I was running errands today, and when I’m out in my car, I often listen to podcasts. Today I llstened to Preet Bharara, former US District Attorney for the Southern District of New York, on his Cafe Insider podcast. He and his co-host, Joyce Vance, were discussing where the legal process is at now after a year.
While it seems to move at a snail’s pace, they both are pretty confident that things are going as they should be . The biggest questions are, is the Dept of Justice investigating Donald Trump and company and, if so, what if any charges could be brought against him.
So much is riding on this. As Ms. Vance put it, if we cannot press charges against Trump then the commonly held belief (including by me) that we are a nation of law and no one is above the law, is over. That’s what I’m pondering in my heart today.
I believe it is my responsibility to vote for people who still believe that we are a nation of law and that not even the president is above the law. If we have dispensed with that belief as a country, we are not going to be happy with the results.
Now, a year later, over two thirds of republicans believe the election actually was stolen. Their answer is to shift control of elections at the state level from the actual vote to state legislatures. Because even extreme gerrymandering isn’t enough. Only one side is giving the episode a close look and it isn’t the ones who incited it.
Amen, Judy and thank you for posting this. Race was central on January 6, and the confederate flags, noose and gallows and other symbols were no mistake. These were people who do not want America to be the multiracial democracy that so many have fought to have.
Multiracial, multi-religious, multi-anything — sigh… If some of those folks had their way, nobody but they would be here.
